The path to becoming a counselor has had a lot of detours for me. I was born in Illinois and grew up in Alaska and joined the US Navy when I was 18. Through the military, I have gotten to live in South Carolina, Illinois, and Italy. I met my husband while we were both on active duty stationed in South Carolina. My child was lucky enough to be born while we were stationed in Italy. Since getting out in 2006 I have lived in Alaska, Florida and now finally settled in Washington.
I was in the medical field in the military and continued when I got out. I honestly wanted to become a nurse at first and life changed that plan. I’ve spent many years working on understanding myself and my own mental health and through that, my love of mental health grew. I want to help others to understand they are not alone and life can get better.
As a biracial (Black and White) female married to a first-generation Cuban-American raising a multiracial child working to understand the ways we are all so different but the same has also been part of my journey in mental health. I have been able to use all these different experiences and knowledge to help understand and embrace each person I help with their journey.
